The Dunedin Youth Jazz Festival is an annual celebration of the jazz being made by young musicians in Dunedin and surrounding areas. Founded in 2018, the DYJF traditionally consists of:

 

A competition for High School Big Bands and combos

A workshop with the guest adjudicator

A showcase concert featuring the adjudicator and local musicians

Dunedin Youth Jazz Festival 2026

The DYJF Big Band and Combo contests are confirmed for Friday, July 31st, at the Otago Boys' High School Auditorium, with Duncan Ferguson presiding as the adjudicator. Duncan will then choose an "All-Star Band" which will have a workshop at 2 pm on Saturday, August 1st, at the Otago Boys' High School Auditorium, with a performance for parents at 3:30 pm.

The Festival is a free event for all to attend. Koha is appreciated.
