Bouncing with Benji: The Dunedin Youth Jazz Orchestra and Maya Satake

To celebrate New Zealand music month the Hanover Hall Concert series at Dunedin Jazz Club focuses on the talents of bass trombonist Benji Pickering and singer Maya Satake, who will premiere the vocal chart Sliding with the Dunedin Youth Jazz Orchestra, recently composed by band director Bill Martin. Pickering joined the DYJO in junior high school and since specialising on the bass trombone has become a formidable presence on both the jazz and classical music scenes. Similarly, the reputation of Satake continues to grow on the back of sell out concerts performing the music of Ella Fitzgerald at both Hanover Hall and Moons. Of course, the real feature of the concert will be the Dunedin Youth Jazz Orchestra, who continue their recent tour de force of sell-out concerts by performing some of the most demanding music in the field of contemporary jazz, performing brand new music by German composer, Florian Ross.
