The Dunedin Jazz club is excited to announce that our third pop up event of 2025 will feature the Sur Quartet at Moon’s Cafe and Bar on March 28th. This new ensemble showcases the intimate and authentic musical partnership between Kena Rojas Amador and Miguel Herrera, both originally from Chile. Their performance features a collection of traditional Latin American folk songs, newly arranged for a jazz ensemble by Bill Martin and Paul McLennan Kissel. Alongside these innovative interpretations, the group will also present soul and jazz standards performed in English.
SUR (South) is a word that carries deep significance for Miguel and Kenna — a cardinal point, a connection between the lives they left behind and the new ones they’ve built in Aotearoa. It reflects both their roots and their journey, blending the distinct sounds of their homeland with the fresh air of New Zealand’s musical landscape.
