The Andy Sugg Group

The July Concert at the DJC welcomes the first international musicians to the Hanover Stage in 2026. The Andy Sugg Group features musicians from across Australia and New Zealand, including two of the best saxophonists from this corner of the globe. The Melbourne–based group explores post-Trane improvisation in original compositions written for a small group setting. Sugg (tenor sax, Melbourne) will lead his group across an eclectic range of compositional influences, including contemporary jazz, funk, R&B and avant-pop. Joining him are Roger Manins (tenor sax, Auckland), Umar Zakaria (bass, Melbourne), Bill Martin (piano, Dunedin), and Mark Lockett (drums, Wellington).

Andy Sugg is a leading Australian saxophonist, band leader and composer based in Melbourne.
