Tuning Up with the Dunedin City Jazz Orchestra

The Dunedin City Jazz Orchestra returns to the DJC stage for a concert that puts the “Big” into “Big Band”. Following their tribute concert series featuring the works of Gershwin, Ellington and Cole Porter, the Dunedin City Jazz Orchestra embarks on an exploration of Big Band music after the Swing era as bands transitioned from so-called “dance bands” to the modern concert big bands of today.

With repertoire from the likes of the Buddy Rich Big Band (Nutville), Maynard Ferguson (Birdland, Besame Mucho), Arturo Sandoval (Funky Cha Cha, Closely Dancing), and vocal numbers that featured Diane Schuur, the Dunedin City Jazz Orchestra are Tuning Up - both in the musical sense, where tuning is important for any group - but also in the mechanical sense; tuning up their engine for a fast-paced, high-energy performance.
